VALE DA TELHA is situated on the west coast of Portugal in the Costa Vicentina National Park and comes under the council of Aljezur.
It is approximately 120km from Faro which is the nearest airport.
If you are looking for a holiday away from the masses, this is the place for you.
It is an ideal location for walking and bike riding. (bikes can be hired in Aljezur). There is also horse riding and tennis courts in Vale da Telha, and all the local beaches are suitable for surfing and body boarding. There is a lake and local rivers for fishing, but a licence must be obtained for this from one of the multibanco machines. The cost depends on how long you want the licence for but doesn’t cost much.

Supermarkets – there are 2 small supermarkets within Vale da Telha where you can buy everything necessary for your holiday.

Restaurants/Bars – 2 Bars/restaurants at the Pine roundabout, Taska da Karisma and Vale da Telha restaurant and the more lively Piranha Bar is in the only apartment block that exists in Vale da Telha.
There is also a local restaurant at nearby Vales as well as at the beaches.

Local Beaches
Arrifana – A sheltered bay famous for it’s surf. There are toilets, one beach restaurant and lifeguards on duty during the summer months. Past the beach parking there is a good choice of other local restaurants.
Monte Clerigo ¬ A picturesque setting where the beach never gets too crowded. There are toilets, 3 bar/restaurants and lifeguards on duty in the summer.
Amoreira – From Vale da Telha and through the town of Aljezur this beach is a little further away than the other two but certainly worth a visit. It has a bar/restaurant, is a good surfing beach and lifeguards on duty in the summer. The beach is long, backed by sand dunes and goes along the river where, depending upon the tides, it is ideal for children to play.

There are many other beaches to visit, for example: Praia da Odeceixe to the north, Figueira, Carrapateira and Amado heading southwards along the west coast and of course all the more popular ones along the length of the south coast.

ALJEZUR – About 6km from Vale da Telha the town is in 2 parts; the Old Town boasting the castle ramparts which give fantastic views over a wide area, museums, galleries, and Igreja Nova, the newer part of town which was rebuilt after it was devastated by an earthquake in 1755.
There is a covered market operating in the mornings which sells fish, meat, fruit and vegetables.
There are supermarkets, numerous small shops, banks, restaurants, cafes, a chemist and a post office. It is here that surf schools and bike hire can be arranged.
Aljezur has it’s own Town Hall, Health Centre and Police Station.
There is also a large indoor swimming pool and sports centre.
